It depends on the job — the size of the repair, how many spots there are, the height, and how much texture matching is needed all change the price. Every drywall job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Missouri doesn't have a statewide license specifically for drywall contractors — so if a company claims to be "state licensed" for drywall, be careful. Scott Drywall is a locally owned, City of Springfield business-licensed contractor and carries insurance for the work we do. We're happy to provide our certificate of insurance before we start your job.
Yes. Texture matching is one of the things we're known for. We blend repairs into knockdown, orange peel, skip-trowel, and smooth (Level 5) finishes so the fixed area disappears into the wall or ceiling around it. A good texture match is the difference between a repair you can see and one you can't.
The cost depends on the size of the ceiling, its height, and whether it needs new texture and paint afterward — so we price each one individually and give you a free quote. One important note: if your home was built before the mid-1980s, the ceiling should be tested for asbestos before removal. It's inexpensive and we'll point you to a tester. If it comes back positive, that removal has to be handled by a licensed abatement company first; we take care of the drywall side afterward.
Usually, yes — if the damage was sudden and accidental, like a burst pipe or an overflowing tub. Slow, long-term leaks and flooding are often excluded, so check your policy. We can document the damage with clear before photos to make your claim easier, then cut out, replace, and texture-match the drywall so it looks like it never happened.
For most standard drywall repairs and replacements, no permit is needed. Permits usually come into play when you're altering the structure, moving walls, or doing larger remodels. If your project needs one, we'll tell you up front and help you understand the process — we won't leave you guessing.
Many small repairs are done in a single visit. Because joint compound needs time to dry between coats, a patch that needs multiple coats and texture may span a day or two. We'll give you a realistic timeline in your estimate — including when it'll be ready for primer and paint (and we can paint it too, if you'd like).
It depends on how much of the sheet is damaged and why. Small holes and cracks are almost always a patch. Widespread water damage, sagging, or crumbling board usually calls for replacing the full sheet so the fix lasts. We'll give you our honest recommendation — the cheaper option when it'll hold, the thorough option when it won't.
A Level 5 finish is the smoothest drywall finish there is — a thin skim coat over the entire surface so there's no visible texture at all. It's worth it for walls with glossy paint or lots of natural light, where every imperfection would otherwise show. For most textured walls, a Level 4 finish is plenty. We'll tell you which your project actually needs.
